Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17
In our home there is most certainly not a shortage of food, yet one snapshot of my son’s current eating habits would leave one wondering indeed. You see, at 13 months my son began bellying up to the doggie buffet. For some reason unbeknownst to me he would often turn his nose up at the meal I prepared only to save room for our dog’s dish of food. What was it about that kibble that called to him? What was it that he found so appealing? Heaven only knows!
Yet, with a giddy laugh he would toddle off with a fist full of kibble in each hand and a slighted pooch at his heels. As I watched this reoccurring theme play out before me I couldn’t help but find myself puzzled by his actions. Then God said, “I know what you mean! You have turned your nose up at My perfect gift many a time”. As puzzling as it is, it’s true. Something about the kibble of life calls out to each of us at times. However, I believe it is when we get weary that we are most apt to eat from the dog’s dish. So with that in mind, perhaps today is a good day to take a look at what you have a fist full of. Overall, we need to be willing to put down the puppy chow and fill up on Him, otherwise we leave little room for the nourishing portion that God wants to give.
