The droning serenade of “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy” echoed in my ears as we made our way down the road. I half expected the cars in front of me to start pulling over due to the siren like pitch that was being emitted from the back seat of my car.
Alas, when all was said and done it was me who did the pulling over. The great commotion was due to a toy. The interesting fact of the matter was that the children had the same toy, they just happened to be two different colors. I sighed, for I was no rookie to this type of catastrophe… there was little doubt in my mind that the blue hue of Elijah’s toy had caught Isabella’s eye and stirred a great longing in her heart. She had determined she could not live without acquiring “that toy”, the one with the heavenly blue hue that put her pitiful, pink, plastic portion of a toy to shame. Oh, how the grass always seems to look greener on the other side.

It would appear, that which we think we need is often not a need, so much as it is a want. A want that can easily distract us from enjoying the gift that God has already given us. Our vision can get a bit skewed when it comes to our wants and needs. I believe many of our wants are simply desires for a quick or momentary fix. A need however, is truly something we cannot live without. When I think about my needs, it really comes down to just one: Jesus Christ. He provides for our every need, He gives what we need in each season in order to prepare us for the next. Our gracious Lord is never early, He is never late, yet He is always on time and in line when it comes to the bestowment of His good and perfect gifts!
As we keep our eyes fixed on Him, we will find that His provisions are truly perfect portions. And it is that perfect portion that He gave in due season that shall prepare us, and lead us to prosperity in the seasons ahead. Overall, today may be a good day to do a perspective check. For when we have a proper perspective, a heavenly perspective, then shall we find the secret of being content in any and every situation.
