Trash or Treasure

“But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell” Genesis 4:5

Shortly after our son Elijah came home from the hospital I decided to move his bassinet into our living room during the daylight hours. Needless to say Isabella was quite intrigued by the tiny new addition to our family, and she made plenty of stops by that quaint bassinet. While her curiosity was to be expected her lack of respect for Elijah’s space was not. In fact his bassinet became nothing more than a large trash receptacle in her eyes. She would listlessly stroll by and drop in empty juice boxes, unwanted socks, snack wrappers, banana peels… trash in general!

One could note that when she passed by his domain she gave abundantly of her unwanted items, but not so much of what she herself found enjoyable or delightful. With that in mind, what do we abundantly give of when we take a stroll with our Jesus, family and friends? Do we simply pile on the trash while we whine, complain and make excuses? Do we slather God with the abundant love of a grateful heart or with our leftovers? Today would be a good day to assess just how sincere our gestures really are. Today recommit yourself to giving Him your best.

"The wise in heart are called prudent, understanding, and knowing, and winsome speech increases learning [in both speaker and listener].” Proverbs 16:21

My name is Lori, I am a daughter of the King, a Pastors wife, and the mother of three beautiful children. This monthly devotional looks to bring godly insight and humor to the everyday moments we experience as parents. It highlights the countless ways God speaks, and ministers to us through the joys and trials of parenthood.  I invite you to become a part of the everyday antics of our family’s life. As you join us you’re sure to find yourselves in the midst of many of the familiar delights, and countless mini catastrophes that come along with child rearing. Each devotional you read will be set along-side Scripture to aid in self- reflection and spiritual growth. And as you read along with us each month, you may begin to discover that our children’s outward actions often reflect many of our inward thoughts.  This unique perspective enables us to take an honest look at ourselves, and it even puts us in a position to be pickled through the process of parenthood. So come and join us as God reveals the little child in each of us, and our ever present need for His love and wisdom.
