It’s Time to Shine

“I am chosen of God, holy and dearly loved” Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessalonians 1:4

It was ten minutes until we needed to be out the door and on the road for church. At this point I could safely say everything was right on track. The kids were cleaned and dressed, the diaper bag was packed, and I had nothing left to do but fasten my shoes. As I finished buckling my brown heels I sent out a call to the troops. Alas no one showed but the dog. So I headed to Isabella’s room, pushed open the door and quickly took note of an empty Vaseline bottle lying at the foot of her bed. Whatever it meant, it could not be good...

I bustled off to Elijah’s room, pressed my hand to the door and waited for the scene to unfold. Low and behold our dear little ones were shinning in their Sunday best! They stared at me wide eyed and gleaming, dripping from head to toe in water resistant goo. What could be done? I had no choice but to do damage control. I quickly swabbed up the extra goo, slicked back the hair, changed the clothes and we headed out.

Oh how quickly we can get ourselves into a mess with even the most innocent looking things. We all make faux pas from time to time but we can’t let a little goo take us out of the race of life. When our sin becomes open and obvious it can be hard to face the world. When things get sticky you may not feel like facing the day. Yet we need to remember that sin, circumstances or even man’s opinions of us, are not the things that define us; our Heavenly Father does!

When we get ourselves into a mess the best thing we can do is recognize it, clean things up, and get back in the race. You are chosen, holy and dearly loved! No sticky situation should ever detour you from engaging in life, and fulfilling the purpose and plan that our loving and forgiving Father has for you.

"The wise in heart are called prudent, understanding, and knowing, and winsome speech increases learning [in both speaker and listener].” Proverbs 16:21

My name is Lori, I am a daughter of the King, a Pastors wife, and the mother of three beautiful children. This monthly devotional looks to bring godly insight and humor to the everyday moments we experience as parents. It highlights the countless ways God speaks, and ministers to us through the joys and trials of parenthood.  I invite you to become a part of the everyday antics of our family’s life. As you join us you’re sure to find yourselves in the midst of many of the familiar delights, and countless mini catastrophes that come along with child rearing. Each devotional you read will be set along-side Scripture to aid in self- reflection and spiritual growth. And as you read along with us each month, you may begin to discover that our children’s outward actions often reflect many of our inward thoughts.  This unique perspective enables us to take an honest look at ourselves, and it even puts us in a position to be pickled through the process of parenthood. So come and join us as God reveals the little child in each of us, and our ever present need for His love and wisdom.
