"Tell them to do good and be rich in good works. They should give much to those in need and be ready to share." 1 Timothy 6:18
When our son Elijah was two, we found that he was quiet overly fond of his binky (a.k.a. pacifier). In fact, he could often be found clutching one binky in hand while sucking on another. It actually was not uncommon to spot him sporting around with three at once! I often pitied the church worker that tried to remove one of these priceless plastic treasures from his steely grip. It always seemed to end in a cataclysmic event.
After all, what a horrendous request! We all know one must have a binky for its intended purpose, a second for back-up, and a third for good measure. Alas, I had to come to grips with the fact that our son had become a hoarder at the meager age of two. Interestingly enough, God caught my attention in that moment and directed me to some hoarding rituals of my own.
I think we all have a tendency to hoard a bit here and there. Maybe its stuff, money, clothes, dessert, or our time. But today is a good day to take inventory and consider the fact that God wants us to be generous and willing to share. Our loving Father gives us overflow in certain areas of our lives so we can give to others. Take some time to ask yourself, what do I need to let go of or give up so that I can be counted a blessing today?
