“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”. Romans 12:2
As I emptied the dryer I felt a bit daunted by the monstrous pile of laundry that had taken over a sizable portion of the living room. Yet, I laughed as I heard the sweet giggles of my back up crew dashing to dive into the mountain that loomed before us. As we dug into the task at hand, I caught a whiff of something that was definitely not clean… a dirty diaper was in our midst. My gaze turned to Isabella, and before the words could tumble out of my mouth she said, “It was Elijah!"
Two diapers later the culprit was indeed discovered and Elijah was cleared of the heinous crime he had so unjustly been convicted of. Perhaps the question on your mind is this. Why would Isabella want to sit in a dirty diaper? What would provoke her to pass the blame? I believe her reasoning is not too far off from ours. After all, as adults we often choose to sit in our mess because we don’t want to deal with the circumstances or the consequences of our actions.
How silly it all is when we take a closer look at it. Don’t we realize that our lack of honesty causes us to emit a foul odor before God, an odor that inevitably gives us away? We know the best course of action for our toddler would be to get cleaned up and start fresh and new. Yet we often miss this directive in our own lives. Overall, God may be kind enough to clean us up, but if we will not change our mindset we will find ourselves in a state of stinky-ness time and time again. Perhaps you have caught the scent of something a little funky in your life as of late? Maybe it’s time to fess up and ask for a heavenly diaper change!
