Plastic Perfection

And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,” Colossians 1:10

The table was set and the invitation was made. My daughter had invited me to a delectable feast and the menu consisted of ripe fruit, eggs sunny side up, bacon, toast and a touch of tea. As I sat down at her dainty table of plastic fixings I noted how beautiful it all looked. Yet, in reality it was nothing more than plastic perfection. There was no sustenance to what was set before me only hollow replicas of the real thing.

As I sat and sipped my tea I wondered, what kind of things had I been playing at as of late? After all, the Lord is not seeking plastic perfection. God wants us to not only look like the real thing, but be the real thing! He wants us to be real about our intentions, feelings and motives. Our lives should glorify Him in both word and in deed.

When one is dealing with fake fruit it is quickly unmasked for what it is, a hollow shell that is empty of nutritional value. Our Father is looking for us to produce good fruit that is real and will nourish, strengthen and fill the lives of those we come in contact with. We were not created to be empty vessels but vessels that are full. Full of the Holy Spirit and full of life in order that we might bring life to a dying world. Today is a good day to ask if there are any areas of your life that seem empty of sustenance. Then it would do us well to ask the Holy Spirit to fill us up.

"The wise in heart are called prudent, understanding, and knowing, and winsome speech increases learning [in both speaker and listener].” Proverbs 16:21

My name is Lori, I am a daughter of the King, a Pastors wife, and the mother of three beautiful children. This monthly devotional looks to bring godly insight and humor to the everyday moments we experience as parents. It highlights the countless ways God speaks, and ministers to us through the joys and trials of parenthood.  I invite you to become a part of the everyday antics of our family’s life. As you join us you’re sure to find yourselves in the midst of many of the familiar delights, and countless mini catastrophes that come along with child rearing. Each devotional you read will be set along-side Scripture to aid in self- reflection and spiritual growth. And as you read along with us each month, you may begin to discover that our children’s outward actions often reflect many of our inward thoughts.  This unique perspective enables us to take an honest look at ourselves, and it even puts us in a position to be pickled through the process of parenthood. So come and join us as God reveals the little child in each of us, and our ever present need for His love and wisdom.
